Virtual Workshop on Authoritarian Regimes (VWAR)

VWAR is an online workshop series, closely modeled after the Conflict Consortium Virtual Workshop. The workshop provides a venue for scholars of authoritarian regimes to receive feedback on their work in progress. Established in 2016, the workshop accepts submissions from all scholars who study authoritarian regimes. VWAR participants provide a working paper to the co-organizers, Quintin Beazer and Holger Kern, who then recruit 3 or 4 appropriate additional discussants. The workshops take place online, via Zoom, and last for about 90 minutes.

Authoritarian Political Systems Group (APSG)

The Authoritarian Political Systems Group (APSG) brings together researchers studying authoritarian politics across the globe.

The Group’s mission is to advance academic research on authoritarian regimes while developing an international community of scholars working on these topic. We place particular emphasis on supporting early-career researchers and on connecting researchers working on different aspects of autocracies and with different regional concentrations.

At the heart of our group is our bi-weekly workshop featuring early-career researchers presenting their ongoing work on authoritarian politics. In addition, we also organize a dedicated in-person pre-EPSA Mini-Conference on authoritarian politics, as well as other panels and social events at international conferences. We also host a mailing list in which we share updates on our activities.
